VLAA Junior Development Squad
This squad is open to athletes in the under 12 to under 15 age groups who reach qualifying standards in all VLAA events. Athletes must reach these standards twice for the first event and once for any subsequent events. Squad members are able to participate in training days, training camps and receive coaching and assistance from State coaches. Any enquiries regarding this squad should be directed to the Centre Team Manager or Secretary.
Relay competition is open to all registered athletes in the under 9 to under 15 age groups. This competition is conducted by Knox each year and provides the opportunity to compete at Region and State level. Training is a vital component of this team event. Athletes are required to wear the Knox uniform during competition and parents of participating athletes will be required to assist with duty on competition days. Information will be provided to all athletes when it becomes available. Please check the Knox website for details of coaches, training times etc.
These are competitions held at other athletic centres around the State. Athletes are able to enter four/five of their favorite events at a small cost. Knox uniform must be worn and gold, silver, bronze medals and ribbons will be awarded in each event. Entry forms will be distributed when received by the Team Manager.
State Multi Event
This competition comprising 100m, 800m, hurdles, discus and long jump is held over two days at a regional centre. Medals and ribbons are awarded according to the total points accumulated over all events. Knox uniform must be worn with plain black shorts (no logos). Parents of competing athletes will be required to assist with duty. Entry forms will be distributed when received by the Team Manager.
Region and State Championships
Competition is open to athletes under 9 to under 15 in their preferred events. Knox uniform must be worn with plain black shorts (no logos). Parents of competing athletes will be required to assist with duty. Athletes must qualify at region to progress to State competition. Entry forms will be distributed when received by the Team Manager.
This competition is held on the last day of the season and is open to all registered athletes. A small fee is required for each nominated event. Rowville Lakes uniform must be worn with plain black shorts (no logos). Parents of competing athletes will be required to assist with duty. Medals, ribbons and certificates will be presented to athletes. Knox centre awards and trophies will be presented during the lunch break.
This competition is held over the winter months at different venues throughout the City of Knox and does not incur additional costs for registered athletes. This is also an opportunity for younger children to participate in the under 6 age group. As these children are too young to register for the summer season a small registration fee is required to cover insurance and trophy costs. The following distances apply for cross country athletes:
Under 6 boys & girls 500m
Under 7 & 8 boys & girls 1000m
Under 9 & 10 boys & girls 1500m
Under 11 & 12 boys & girls 2000m
Under 13 – 15 boys & girls 3000m
Parents race – four yearly 1000m
Open days are also held during the cross country season and athletes are able to receive team medals at these events regardless of their individual place finish. Trophies are also awarded to athletes for the winter season.
